If you are thinking about homeschooling your children, here are some things to consider before getting started:
- Homeschooling will affect your budget in a few ways.
a.Taking an eclectic approach to homeschooling will mean minimal cost because you can use the Internet and the library a lot but if you choose to purchase curriculum you will pay at least $300 for it unless you purchase used materials.
b.One parent will need to be home and thus there may be a loss of income if you do not get a work at home job. - You will want to find a homeschool support group so that you can make friends with other homeschoolers. You can usually a group by simply asking around.
- Curriculum is simply an outline of topics to cover so you should know that you do not need this as you can create your own.
- It is important for you to enjoy being with your children because you are going to be with them every hour of every day.
- Make sure that your your partner supports your homeschooling efforts.
- You are going to have to do a lot of reading both online and off to make sure that your children are doing and learning what they should.
- It is important to talk to your children about this decision because you are taking them out of school. Younger children will need a very slow transition while older children may look forward to this transition.
