Teaching children responsibility

I really do think that this is a topic that I’m going to be coming back to a lot this year. Why? Because I’m working so hard to establish some sort of responsibility in my daughter. Is it easy? Heck no! In fact, right now it’s the hardest thing we’ve got going on. Of course, parenting isn’t an easy job - especially single parenting. Nevertheless, some days are easy than others and some lessons are learned much easier than others.

So, how am I going about teaching this lesson this year?

Well, I’m bound and determined that by Christmas time my daughter is going to know how to do the simplest of her school work without me breathing down her neck. I’ve been working on this really hard. What I’ve been doing is getting together her math, reading and copy work lessons and putting them in a folder for her to do. I’ve been getting these lessons together for a few days at a time and tell her when her work is going to be due. Then when I’m working I keep reminding her that she needs to do some school work. I’m really hoping that over the course of time I’ll be doing a lot less reminding. I guess I’ll have to see how this goes and let you know though.
