Building friendships through homeschool groups
October 14th, 2007 (Homeschooling Socialization: Making Friends)
Homeschooling mothers do not have the same social opportunities that public school mothers have. This should not be something that gets you down though. There are various social opportunities available to partake of. Most of these social opportunities are family oriented though. However, this can be good since they can be easily incorporated into your lesson plans. You will also find that most of these activities are inexpensive or even free as well.
The best way to find these activities is by joining a homeschool group either online or in your local area. More than likely you will be able to find such a group quite easily. However, if you cannot find such a group, then you could start one so that you have the opportunity to make friendships with other parents who are homeschooling their children.
Even if you find a local homeschool group, you should not overlook joining an online group. These groups will also provide you with opportunities to build friendships as you come into contact with homeschooling mothers from throughout the United States and the rest of the world as well. This can be especially helpful if you are struggling to come up with new ideas so that your lessons are not so boring.
Regardless of what you decide to do, you need to understand just how important it is for you to take time to have a social life. For one thing, this will make you a much happier homeschooling mom.
