How to find homeschool laws
July 15th, 2007 (Homeschooling Legalities)
In order to have a positive homeschooling experience, you will need to be sure that you are in compliance with your state’s laws. This can be done in a few different ways:
- Visit your state’s education department’s web site, which may be called the State Education Department, the Department of Education, the Department of Education and Early Development, the Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Department of Public Instruction, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs, the Education Agency or the Office of Education.
- While you are waiting to receive information about your state’s homeschool laws read some homeschool law summaries. This information is easy to understand but it is not legally binding.
- Spend $100 to join the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense Association). On their web site you will have access to a summary of each state’s homeschool laws. While this information is free, your money pays for you to have a lawyer in your back pocket just in case you need them. Of course, you do not have to join this site but a lot of homeschoolers will highly recommend that you do so.
